Pointillism/Impressionism Watercolor 
Students use watercolor pencils to create a painting in one of two styles. Choose from Pointillism and Impressionism.

Drawing is expressive and detailed. Shapes, patterns, and/or texture are used to add interest to the piece.

Pointillism: Dots are uniformly sized and within drawn borders.

Impressionism: Swirling brushstrokes are intentional and planned.

Drawing is expressive and somewhat detailed. Little use has been made of pattern or texture.

Pointillism: Dots are not uniformly sized but fall within drawn borders.

Impressionism: Swirling brushstrokes are done haphazardly and with no pattern.

Drawing has few details. It is primarily representational with very little use of pattern, or texture.

Pointillism: Dots are not uniformly sized and do not fall within drawn borders.

Impressionism: Brushstrokes are short and do not swirl, but painting still resembles Starry Night.
Below Average

Drawing lacks almost all detail or it is unclear what the drawing is intended to be.

Pointillism: Student used an insufficient number of dots, or did not use dots at all.

Impressionism: Brushstrokes are short. Painting does not resemble Starry Night.
Color

Excellent

Choice and application of color shows an advanced knowledge of color relationships. Color choice enhances the idea being expressed.
Above Average

Choice and application of color shows knowledge of color relationships. Colors are appropriate for the idea being expressed.
Average

Choice and application of color shows some knowledge of color relationships. Colors are however, not appropriate for the idea being expressed.

Use of materials

Student shows obvious understanding of how to apply the medium and make different applications work together.

Student has taken the technique being studied and applied it in a way that is their own. The student's personality/voice comes through.
