Writing Assessment
	EXCELLENT If the student get's all 4's, then the student will receive an A+ as their letter grade. 4 pts	GOOD If the student get's all 3's, then the student will receive a B+ as their letter grade. 3 pts	ALMOST If the student get's all 2's, then the student will receive a C+ as their letter grade. 2 pts	NEEDS WORK If the student get's all 1's, then the student will receive a D+ as their letter grade. 1 pts
Topic Sentence	EXCELLENT Main topic is clearly stated in a complete opening sentence with correct sentence structure.	GOOD Main topic is stated in an opening sentence but sentence structure is not correct.	ALMOST Main topic is not clearly stated but sentence structure is correct.	NEEDS WORK Main topic is not clearly stated. Sentence structure is not correct.
Content	EXCELLENT Student has written at least 2 supporting details, AND all sentences are on topic.	GOOD Student has written at least 2 supporting details BUT only 2 sentences are on topic.	ALMOST Student has written at least 2 supporting details BUT only 1 sentence is on topic.	NEEDS WORK Student has attempted to write supporting details BUT none are on topic.
Spelling	EXCELLENT There are 0-3 spelling errors.	GOOD There are 4-6 spelling errors.	ALMOST There are 7-9 spelling errors.	NEEDS WORK There are more than 10 spelling errors.
Grammar & Punct./Capt.	EXCELLENT Paragraph has 0-2 errors in punctuation, capitalization.	GOOD Paragraph has 3-4 errors in punctuation, capitalization.	ALMOST Paragraph has 5-6 errors in punctuation, capitalization.	NEEDS WORK Paragraph has more than 6 errors in punctuation, capitalization.
