The paragraph lacks one of the required elements or is less than 3 sentences.
Good

The paragraph contains all of the required elements.
Second Paragraph
15 %

The second paragraph should describe the main characters and events in the book OR the scientist(s) whose research is discussed in the article, and how the research was conducted in order to answer the questions or solve the problem that was the subject of their study. It should contain a minimum of 3 sentences.

Poor

The paragraph does not adequately describe the main events or research focus, or is less than 3 sentences long.
Fair

The paragraph partially describes the main events or research focus, and contains 3 sentences.
Good

The paragraph is more than 3 sentences long, and provides a good overview of the book's characters and main events, or the scientists and their research.
Third Paragraph
15 %

This paragraph should describe the most interesting or important events in the book or the specific data or findings that were the result of the research. It should contain a minimum of

The paragraph does not do a good job of describing the most important events in the book or the most important data, findings or results of the research.
Fair

The paragraph provides a fair but not good description of the important events or results of the research.
Good

The paragraph does a good job of describing the main events of the book or the most important results of the research.
Summary or Conclusion
25 %

This paragraph should summarize the writer's view of the book's content, especially any science-related information that was learned; OR it should explain the scientist(s)' conclusions by relating them to the data/results of the research. Minimum of 3 sentences.

Poor

The paragraph does not summarize the book's content in the writer's review, or does not relate the scientist(s)' conclusions to the data/results of their research.
Fair

The paragraph leaves out an important aspect of the book's content or does not adequately relate the scientis(s)' conclusion to the data/results of their research.
Good

The paragraph does a good job of summarizing the book's content in the writer's review or in relating the
scientist(s)' conclusions to the results of their research.
Spelling and Grammar
20 %

The writer should use correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar, and write in complete sentences.

Poor

The report is filled with many spelling, punctuation and grammar mistakes, and is not written with complete sentences.
Fair

There are some spelling, punctuation and/or grammar errors, and more than one sentence is not complete.
Good

90% of the report contains correct spelling, punctuaion, and grammar, and no more than one sentence is incomplete.
