Epic Poetry and Macbeth Analysis This rubric assesses the writer's analysis of one of the provided prompts. The prompts address the writer's understanding of selections of epic poetry, the idea of hero/villain, and Shakespeare's Macbeth. Word choice leads to confusion. Paper does not meet minimum requirements. Paper reveals a lack of effort.	Fair Paper is need of editing or proof reading. Many incomplete or run on sentences. Missing punctuation. Paper meets minimum requirements. Paper reveals a minimum of effort.	Good Paper shows extensive editing and contains minimal grammatical or mechanical errors. Word choice and structure creates clarity and understanding.
Thesis and Prompt Clear thesis is presented. Writing reflects understanding of prompt and reading	Poor No clear thesis is presented. Writing reflects little to no understanding of prompt and/or reading selections. Writer summarizes not synthesizes.	Fair Thesis is presented, but is vague or unclear. Writing reflects little or vague understanding of prompt and/or reading selections. Writer synthesizes some material, but relies on summary.	Good Thesis is precise, creative, insightful, etc. Prompt is clearly understood and, consequently, demonstrates clear understanding of literature selection(s).
