Recognizing Letters	Poor Student will say the names of 3 letters displayed on the board.	Fair Student says the names of 5 letters displayed on the board.	Good Student says the names of 7 letters displayed on the board.
Letter-Sound Correspondence	Poor Student sounds out 2 of 8 letters displayed on the board.	Fair Student sounds out 3 of 8letters displayed on the board.	Good Student sounds out 4 of 8 letters displayed on the board.
Letter Recognition Within Words	Poor Student recognizes words that begin with 3 letters from the board in a favorite book.	Fair Student recognizes words that begin with 5 letters displayed from the board in a favorite book.	Good Student recognizes words that begin with all 7 letters from the board in a favorite book.
Reading Words in a Sentence	Poor Student will read a sentence that contains a word from the list on the board with frequent gestural and verbal prompting from the teaacher.
