Definitions Students will be able to explain the meaning of the words persuade, inform, and entertain.	Does Not Meet Student is not able to define any or only one type of writing.	Approaching Standards Student is able to define two out three of the words correctly.	Meets Standards Student is able to define all three words correctly.	Exceeds Standards Student is able to define all three words correctly and provide an example for each one of them.
Application Students will be able to read a passage and determine the purpose for the writing as persuade, entertain, or inform.	Does Not Meet Student is not able to correctly identify any or only one type of writing.	Approaching Standards Student is able to correctly identify two types of the writing.	Meets Standards Student is able to correctly identify all three types of writing.	Exceeds Standards Student is able to correctly identify all three types of writing and produce their own writing for examples.
Classification student will be able to classify three types of writing as persuasive, entertaing, or informing.	Does Not Meet Student is not able to classify any or only one passage correctly.
