	PASS Showing a clear understanding of the writing prompt, the student exiting English 28 can perform the following tasks 3 pts	NOT PASSING Failing to show a clear understanding of the writing prompt, the student does the following: 2 pts	NOT PASSING Fails to meet minimum standards for English 28 1 pts
Coherency/Development	PASS write a multi-paragraph essay reflecting coherent and well-organized ideas	NOT PASSING fails to use paragraphs or fails to organize paragraphs reasonably, resulting in ideas that lack coherence (thesis is not apparent, body paragraphs fail to develop topic sentences, topic sentences are missing or fail to support thesis)	NOT PASSING Does not minimum requirements for English 28
Structure/Organization	PASS apply standard syntax models with a variety of sentence structures and almost no (1-2) fragments and run-ons	NOT PASSING fails to use standard syntax or a variety of sentence structures.
