Student Success Assessment 
Successful students tend to display specific behaviors and characteristics. They arrive on time and prepared for class. They have all the required materials and textbooks. They seek outside help to ensure their success in class. This rubric evaluates students on these characteristics and motivates students to model successful behaviors.

Successful students arrive prepared for class. They think about the content presented and ask questions. They are respectful of the instructor and other students.

Student rarely participated in large group and small group activities. Student seems disengaged from class discussions.
Fair

Student occasionally participates in small and large group activities, but rarely assumes a leadership role in the class.
Good

Student frequently participates and asks thoughtful questions. Student often takes a leadership role in small and large group activities.
Homework and Assignments

Successful students complete all homework assignments on time and in a thoughtful manner.

Needs Improvement

Student rarely completes homework assignments. Student's essay assignments are often incomplete or lack requirements. Student's assignments are often late.
Fair

Student completes majority of the work on time. Homework might occasionally lack completion or requirements.
Good

Student always completes homework and essay assignments on time and in a thoughtful manner.
Textbooks and Materials

Successful students purchase all required textbooks and bring them to class. Successful students always bring paper, pens, and other required materials to class.

Needs Improvement

Student has not purchased required textbooks and often comes to class missing necessary materials.
Fair

Student has purchased textbook and materials, but is occasionally unprepared (forgets to bring textbook or needed materials).
Good

Student attends class prepared with all necessary textbooks and materials. Additionally, the textbook is thoughtfully annotated.
Supplemental Resources

Successful students will seek out external resources (such as tutors, workshops and instructor assistance) to assist them with the class.

Needs Improvement

Student has not attended any workshops, tutoring sessions, or instructor office hours to seek support and assistance.
Fair

Student has attended 1-2 workshops and/or tutoring sessions. Student has not sought instructor assistance during office hours.
Good

Student has attended 3+ workshops or tutoring session and has met with the instructor in office hours at least 1-2 times.
