Create Your Own Dance
Create Your Own Dance
Students are required to create their own dances, in groups no larger than 3 students. Dance routines are to be at least 1.5 min. in length. Students are encouraged to create their own original dance movements. Dance should reflect work and techniques learned in class throughout the year.

Group attempts to create something new, but simply rearranges taught patterns.

Group repeats dances taught in class. No attempt to create anything new.

Dance included all 4 Choreographic Devices. Each device was clear and well executed.
Meets Standard
Dance included only 3 of the Choreographic Devices. Some of the executions of these were unclear.
Approaching Standard
Dance included only 2 of the Choreographic Devices.

Dance included only 1 of the choreographic devices.
Rhythm/Tempo
Exceeds Standard
Shows a complete understanding of tempo and beat and stays on rhythmn throughout the dance.
Meets Standard
Generally accurate in beat, tempo, rhythms of dance sequences most of the time.
Approaching Standard
Shows basic understanding of tempo and beat, but falls behind and/or speeds up or makes errors in rhythm.
Below Standard
Attempts to keep a rhythm, but gets off beat and speeds up or falls behind often. Doesn't follow beat in music.
Performance
Exceeds Standard
Student danced with high level energy. Movements were clear and transitions were smoothe. Student displayed knowledge of dance from beginning to end.
Meets Standard
Student danced with some energy. Movements were not always clear and transitions were not smoothe. Student displayed some knowledge of dance, although there were times they did not remember the steps.
Approaching Standard
Student danced with low level energy. Movements were minimal and were not clear. Student displayed little knowledge of dance from beginning to end.
Below Standard
Student danced with no energy. Movements were not Student displayed no knowledge of dance from beginning to end.
