Genius Project Genius Project For 30 minutes per class, students will complete some research into a topic of their choosing for 7 weeks. At the end of the Genius Project, the students will create a culminating presentation/product based on what they discovered through their independent research. Stated Purpose or Question Student clearly defines or states the area of interest or topic to be researched. If a question is to be answered, the question must be clearly stated.	Unacceptable Student does not state intended purpose/topic for research or a question to be answered through research.	Developing	Mastery Student offers vague premise for study and does not clearly define a purpose/topic or question to be answered.	Beyond Mastery Student clearly states purpose/topic of research and/or question to be answered through research.
Summary Students will provide summary of their researched texts per week.	Unacceptable Student does not provide any summaries of any researched text.	Developing Student completes five (5) or less 1-3-2-1 paragraphs of summary and/or student provided ultimately unacceptable work about researched texts.	Mastery Students completes at least six (6) 1-3-2-1 paragraphs f summary and/or student provided work where most analyses of researched texts were ultimately acceptable. Mastery Students provides at least six (6) texts related to chosen topic and/or student provided researched texts that were ultimately acceptable.	Beyond Mastery Student provides eight (8) or more texts relevant to research topic and/or student provided work where researched texts were ultimately acceptable.
Evaluate Credibility / Accuracy Student can decipher whether a text is relevant and will further develop his/her chosen topic. Attention to Audience Students use language and produce materials appropriate for the classroom and general public.	Unacceptable Student does not use appropriate language and/or student work is absent.	Developing Student's language is difficult to understand and too vague to fully illustrate his/her topic during presentation.	Mastery Student uses appropriate language for the topic he/she chose, but intermittently uses slang and/or text-speak during presentation.	Beyond Mastery Student uses language and produce materials appropriate for the classroom and general public.
Technological Process Student uses digital media to post research and findings, and the student is attentive to instructor(s) feedback on published work.	Unacceptable Student does not post research and/or findings to digital media.	Developing Student struggles to post research and findings to digital media and is inattentive of instructor(s) feedback on research and findings.	Mastery Student efficiently posts research and findings to digital media and demonstrates improved efficiency after reviewing instructor feedback.	Beyond Mastery Student proficiently posts research and findings to digital media and uses creative tactics to showcase work on the digital media.
