The Script

Reading, analysis and interpretation of script

Novice

Student has not read and understood the script. The character objective is unclear.
Developing

Student has read part of the play.
Objectives are stated but not in the proper terms.
Proficient

Student has researched some material not known in the play.Objectives are addressed and but not clearly stated.
Exceeds

Student has researched any material not known in the play. Givens and objectives are addressed and clearly stated.
The Ground Plan

A ground plan is created and set up on the playing area.

Novice

Simplistic drawing with few details. Objects are missing or placed incorrectly as per the script.
Developing

Drawing includes most objects. A prop list is created and objects are found. Sight lines and actions are not considered.
Proficient

A complete drawing is created. Sight lines are created but scenery is not added.
Exceeds

A complete drawing is created. The prop list is used and the actor's personal touches are seen based on the script.
Use of time - rehearsal

Students spend time in class on task during the rehearsal process.

Novice

Student is often off-task. Side conversations are heard.
Developing

Some of the rehearsal time is spent on the scene. Some changes are made in actions and vocal presentation.
Proficient

Student is on task. Each time the scene is repeated changes are not made to improve the scene.
Exceeds

Student is on task. Each time the scene is repeated changes are made.
Stating of Problems

Student states an acting problem and develops a way to correct the problem.

Novice

No problem is stated.
Developing

The problem is not stated in clear terms. The solution is not completely thought out.
Proficient

The problem is clearly stated. Student does not make adjustments in their playing to correct the problem.
Exceeds

The problem is clearly stated. Student makes adjustments in their playing to correct the problem.
Re-rehearsal

The scene is developed to a performance level with changes made which attempt to solve the identified acting problem.

Novice

Much time is spent off task. Little or no changes are made.
Developing

Some changes are made. The majority of the time is spent in reworking the scene.
Proficient

The final scene is somewhat different from the first playing. Some strides have been made to correct the acting problem identified.
Exceeds

The final scene is significantly different from the first playing. Strides have been made to correct the acting problem identified.
