Good The author's theme is clear and his/her purpose is easily seen throughout the book. The theme unifies the book and makes it fit together as a whole.
Illustrations	Poor Illustrations are not appealing to young children. They are not vivid or original.	Fair Illustrations are mediocre and good in some areas.	Good Illustrations are vivid with lots of color to appeal to children. The illustrations pull the theme together and create unity throughout the book.
Rhymes Choices	Poor Rhymes poorly chosen for the age of children and theme of the book.	Fair Rhyme choice is fair, but doesn't carry out the overall theme.	Good Large number of verses organized around the theme. Rhymes appealing to children.
Personal Response	Poor This nursery rhyme book did not appeal to me. Theme, illustrations and rhymes used were not effective for this book.	Fair The nursery rhyme book was fair, but did not make me want to seek out to use for the children in my life.	Good This nursery rhyme book was of excellent quality. The theme, illustrations and rhyme choices all came together to create a book that was a powerful tool for young readers.
