	Distinguished 3 pts	Apprentice 2 pts	Novice 1 pts	Fail 0 pts
Journal Entry 40 %	Distinguished Student makes clear their response to the topic chosen and stays on topic. When appropriate, student uses references to the reading or to outside sources.	Apprentice Student responds to the topic.	Novice Student does not respond to the topic in their answer.	Fail No entries are submitted.
Response Entry 40 %	Distinguished Student makes clear their response to another student's journal entry. The response is respectful and relevant to the other student's entry.	Apprentice Student responds respectfully to another students journal entry.	Novice Student does not respond to another student's entry or is not respectful of a different viewpoint.	Fail No responses are submitted.
Organization and Completion 20 %	Distinguished Student turns in complete journal with an entry for each week.	Apprentice Student turns in a partial journal that is missing no more than two entries.	Novice Student turns in an incomplete journal that is missing more than two entries.	Fail No journal is submitted.
