For swimmers, coaches, and parents to gain understanding as to what is expected of swimmers as members of a competitive swim team.

Pool Participation

Good

Never late to practice.

Performs assigned stroke/skill.

Does not stop on the wall when they are supposed to be swimming.

Completes the swim session without leaving the pool (excepting bathroom use).
Fair

Late to practice once a week.

Asks to do a stroke/skill they like better.

Is on the wall for 10 to 30 seconds when they are supposed to be swimming.

Asks to leave the pool during practice for reasons other than bathroom use.
Poor

Is late to practice 2 or more times per week.

Switches strokes/skill when they don't like the one assigned at the time.

Is on the wall 30 seconds or longer when they are supposed to be swimming.

Leaves the pool/pool area without permission.
Attitude

Good

Never uses foul/crude language.

Follows coach's instructions/commands.

Uses encouraging words/signals towards other swimmers.
Fair

Uses foul/crude language 1-2 times per swim week.

Questions the coach's commands 1 or more times per swim session.

Does not use encouraging words/signals towards other swimmers.
Poor

Uses foul/crude language 3 or more times per swim week.

Refuses to obey coach instructions/commands.

Strikes coach or another swimmer.

Uses negative comments/signals to or about others.
Deck Behavior

Good

Never spits on the deck.

Picks up trash.

Picks up their own swim gear and helps with the gear of others.

Helps take out lane lines 3-4 times per swim week.

Does NOT deck change.
Fair

Never spits on the deck.

Walks past trash that can be picked up.

Picks up only the swim gear they used.

Helps take out lane lines 1-2 times per swim week.

Has to be reminded to NOT deck change.
Poor

Spits on the pool deck.

Throws trash on the ground.

Never helps clean up swim gear after practice.

Never helps take out lane lines.

Refuses to stop deck changing.
