Introductory Paragraph	Poor 1 to 2 sentences that barely mention the composer.	Fair 3 to 4 sentences about the composer and his life with no thesis.	Good 5 to 6 sentences about the composer. The final sentence is a thesis sentence addressing the composer's importance today.
Body Paragraphs	Poor Paragraphs are short (1-2 sentences) with little information.	Fair Paragraphs are a reasonable length (4-6 sentences) with little information.	Good Paragraphs are a reasonable length and are informative.
Citations	Poor Sources are not cited.	Fair Sources are cited by title or author only.	Good Sources are cited by author, work, and page number.
Length	Poor Paper is 1 page or shorter.	Fair Paper longer than 1 page, but shorter than 3.	Good Paper is 3 to 5 pages in lenth.
Grammar	Poor Words are misspelled and used improperly. Punctuation is ignored.	Fair Some attention is paid to spelling and punctuation.	Good Words are spelled and used correctly. Sentences are punctuated correctly.
