Construction

Poor

The project has large cracks and areas where the work was not connected properly. Pieces have fallen off or broken due to a lack of attention to the design and nature of the clay.
Fair

The project is secure and stable on the surface. The design is stable and there are only small surface cracks and minimal damage to the work. The glaze was applied to thin or thick and does not cover properly
Good

The work is well designed and properly formed. There are minimal issues with it's drying and attachments. The glaze or finishing is properly applied and there is minimal running off the piece.
Exemplmary

The work is well constructed and the form is complex and displays a great understanding of the drying process and work ability of the clay. There are no appearances of cracks, weak areas, or rough edges. The glaze is applied properly and evenly.
Detail and Craftsmanship

Poor

The work has rough edges, is all one thickness, contains only simple and basic forms and shapes throughout. There is a lack of attention to the surface textures and there are no small pieces of detail.
Fair

The work is made from basic building forms yet contains an accurate shape of the figure. There are some areas of rough an unfinished cuts and connections. There are a few supporting textures or details, but overall little attention to finishing touches.
Good

The work is complex and has unique elements which add interest to the piece. There are small details which show thought and effort in the way the artist used their tools and carving techniques.
Exemplmary

The work is outstanding in its detail and carving. There is attention to detail in the features, clothing, texture and small elements of the work. The artist clearly planned and researched their application of surface treatments and insured their success by creating samples.
Creative Elements:

Poor

The over all concept was not considered. The artist just "went for it" without constructing or sketching out any designs. There is not a unique element in the work. It was copied from another work.
Fair

The project was planned, but resulted in a basic figure. The artist did not spend significant effort in adding elements of character or clothing which would set the figure apart.
Good

The artist designed and constructed a well thought out work which contains unique supporting elements. The application of surface techniques adds to the interest of the work and was thoughtfully considered.
Exemplmary

This work is truly different and stands apart in it's concept. The artist was original and found their own voice in how they approached the work.
The materials used were different, and made the work unique. The artist stretched themselves and took risks with their idea.
Artist Statment

Poor

There was no statement submitted.
Fair

There was a poorly constructed statement which reflected nominal thought and has spelling / punctuation errors and was also late.
Good

The statement was well written, but was late or improperly submitted.
Exemplmary

There was a strong statement concerning the concept of the artist and the materials used. It was on time and well written.
Time and Effort

Poor

The student invested only minimal class time in the work. They were missing form class or late and did not attempt to make up for the time they lost.
Fair

The student worked at a moderate pace on the work. They relied on the teacher for help on a daily basis and did no research on their own.
Good

The student consulted video tutorials and tried new techniques. They asked for help, but were not reliant upon the teacher for every step in their work. They came in after school on 1 occasion.
Exemplmary

The student came in several times and worked overtime on their piece. They were truly invested in the working process and ensured that it was properly maintained and cared for.
Planning

Poor

There was no effort in planning and cultivating an idea.
Fair

The student turned in minimal requirements, but did not seek to research and explore alternative ideas. Their ideas are limited and undeveloped.
Good

The student had several ideas for their project and gathered 10-15 images which would help them in their design effort. The ideas are complex and will require the student to stretch their skill level.
Exemplmary

The student took a considerable amount of time to research, develop and expand their ideas in order to come up with something unique. They have supporting images and have added unique materials to their piece to add interest and variation. Their sketches and concept is inspiring and challenging in it's degree of difficulty.
