Introduction is well developed and provides background information about the character(s) or setting. In addition, the hook grabs the reader's interest.

Exposition provides some background information about the character(s) or setting. The hook somewhat grabs the reader's interest.

Provides an exposition that provides very little background information about the character(s) or setting. The hook attempts, but fails, to grabs the reader's interest.
Poor

Fails to provide an introduction that provides some background information about the character(s) or setting or a hook to grabs the reader's interest.
