Excellent
Content is comprehensive. Writer states and maintains a position, and authoritatively defends that position with precise and highly relevant evidence.
Good
Content is somewhat comprehensive. Writer states and maintains a position, and generally defends that position with specific, applicable evidence.
Fair
Content is not comprehensive. Writer defends a position with little evidence, but attempts to present an argument.
Poor
Content is incomplete. Writer fails to identify or defend a position with any specific evidence.
Integration of Support
Excellent
Argumentative stance is noticeably evident. Quoted support is smoothly integrated. The desired outcome logically follows the reasoning.
Good
Reasoning is mostly clear and understandable. Quoted support is adequately integrated. The argument is basically logical.
Fair
Reasoning is unclear at times. Awkward integration of quotes. Some supporting details are confusing and/or illogical.

The paper does not end with author's position; the conclusion does not give a solid ending to the essay.

There is no conclusion; the paper just ends.
