Sign Language Principles 
Sign Language Principles include handshape, movement, orientation, and placement of the hands to make a specific sign. Altogether, there are about 25 principles that the student must know before attempting to learn sign language.

Student made no effort to come prepared to learn, to participate during class, or attempt to do well on the test. The student is not ready to move on until these principles are grasped with a 74% or better test score.
Fair

Student made some effort to be prepared to learn, to participate during class, and to do well on the test. The student will need repeated review of the principles.
Good

Student made a good effort to be prepared to learn, to participate during class, and to do well on the test. The student is ready to move on to learning the actual signs with some review of the principles occasionally.
Excellent

Student made an excellent effort in preparing to learn, participating in class, and on the test.
Student is ready to move on to learn the actual signs.
Test Grade

Student will take a test over the Sign Language Principles to determine what they know.

Poor

Student does not know the sign principles and receives 64% or less on the test.
Fair

Student knows a few principles and receives between 65% -73% on the test.
Good

Student knows many of the sign principles and receives between 74% to 91% on the test.
Excellent

Student knows most if not all of the sign principles and receives between 92% and 100% on the test.
Participation

Student will participate during reviews of the sign principles by answering questions over the principles.

Poor

Student does not participate during the review.
Fair

Student participates up to 50% of the time.
Good

Student participates from 50% to 90% of the time.
Excellent

Student participates 100% of the time.
Ready to Learn

Student pays attention to the teacher during instruction, refrains from talking and is prepared for class.

Poor

Student does not come to class ready to learn.
Fair

Student is ready to learn 50% of the time.
Good

Student is ready to learn 75% of the time.
Excellent

Student is ready to learn 100% of the time.
