Time Traveller The student takes on the role of a time traveller. The student's audience are historians and archeologists. Like other travellers, our student is writing in a personal journal which will be published when he/she returns. Topic is: What did you witness during your visit to the Incan Empire? Readers are aware of the time traveller's emotions and sensations.
Organization and Format	Poor The personal letter is not written sequentially. The lack of sequence detracts from the readers' understanding.	Fair The letter is written sequentially, however, details are omitted. Lack of details prevent the reader from getting a clear picture of the Incan empire.	Good The letter is written in sequential order and offers details to the readers. The organization helps the reader picture the events of the day.
Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling	Poor Journal contains numerous grammatical, punctuation, and spelling errors.	Fair Journal contains few grammatical, punctuation, and spelling errors.	Good Rules of good grammar, usage, and punctuation are followed. Spelling is correct. Appropriate present tense verbs are used.
Vocabulary and Word choice	Poor New vocabulary is not utilized. Word choice is simple and not fifth grade level.	Fair 2-3 new vocabulary words are used in the journal. Word choice is fifth grade level and helps the reader picture the Incan Empire.	Good 4-5 new vocabulary words are used. Word choice is fifth grade level or beyond. Colorful descriptive words are used to help readers picture the Incan Empire.
