Viewpoint	Strong Viewpoints are clear and organized.	Developing Most viewpoints are clear.	Unacceptable Viewpoints are unclear and disorganized.
Use of Facts & Examples Evidence examples include quotes, historic examples, statistics.	Strong Arguments are supported with 3-5 pieces of evidence from credible sources.	Developing Arguments are supported with 1-3 pieces of evidence and are mostly from credible sources.	Unacceptable Arguments are either unsupported or rely on unreliable sources.
Supporting Arguments	Strong All supporting arguments are relevant, strong, and convincing.	Developing Many supporting arguments are relevant and most are convincing.	Unacceptable Few supporting arguments are relevant and are unconvincing.
Presentation	Strong Voice can always be heard. Student is well prepared.	Developing Voice can usually be understood. Student needs additional preparation.	Unacceptable Voice is difficult to understand. Student is unprepared to defend argument.
Engagement	Strong Student is an active listener, respects time limits, and is respectful in tone and language.	Developing Student listens to the opponent, mostly follows time requirements, and uses respectful language most of the time.	Unacceptable Student does not show respect for his/her opponent and goes well over allowed time.
