Engaging Beginning	Well Below Very poor beginning. Student writes uses few descriptive words. Does not maintain the interest of the reader.	Below Student makes aan attempt to get reader's attention. Uses some interesting words.	Average Student develops a good opening pararagraph which gets reader's attention by using some vivid vocabulary and interesting sentences.	Above Rich vocabulary is used to gather reader's attention. Student uses dialogue or other literary means to engage reader. Develops the beginning paragraph.
