Vocabulary Journal This would be used to evaluate student's vocabulary journal once a week. Students will learn three new vocabulary words each week.
	Beginning (N/A)	Developing (N/A)	Secure (N/A)
Following Directions Student is expected to start each new vocabulary word on a new page in their journal and write the vocabulary word at the top.	Beginning I did not start each new word on a new page or write each new vocabulary word.	Developing I only completed one of the two tasks.	Secure I started each new word on a different page and wrote the new vocabulary word at the top.
Creating pictures Student is expected to draw a picture to show the meaning of each new vocabulary word.	Beginning I did not draw any pictures. or I only drew one picture that showed correct meaning.	Developing I drew two pictures that showed correct meaning.	Secure I drew three pictures that showed correct meaning.
Using the words in sentences. Student is expected to use each new vocabulary word in a sentence to help them better understand the meaning of the word. Student should have at least one sentence on each page.	Beginning I did not attempt to write any sentences. or I wrote a sentence for one vocabulary word.	Developing I wrote a sentence for two vocabulary words.	Secure I wrote three sentences. One for each new vocabulary word.
Mechanics Student is expected to start with a capital, leave spaces, and use punctuation.
