Characters	Poor Names the main character(s) but does not give any describing information.	Fair Names and some gives some description of the main character(s); may not be a complete sentence.	Good One complete sentence naming and describing the main character(s).	Excellent More than one complete sentence naming and describing the main character(s).
Setting	Poor Tells either the place or time, but not both, and not in a complete sentence.	Fair Tells either the place OR the time of the story, but not both, in a complete sentence.	Good Tells both the place and time where and when the story takes place, but maybe not in complete sentences.	Excellent Tells both the place and time where and when the story takes place, in complete sentences.
