Comments related to the topic of discussion.

While other group members were speaking student was activly listening.
Performance of Job
10 pts

Each group member has a specific job in the group discussion. Level of performance of job.

Poor

Student's job was not evident.

Student let his/her group down by not doing their specific job.
Adequate

Student completed their job but also tried to complete other students' jobs as well.

Student periodically "forgot" to complete their job/got side tracked.
Excellent

Student's job was obvious.

Student followed and completed all of his/her role responsibilites.

Level of synthesis, evidence, line of reasoning and arguement

Poor

Student was not able to argue one side of the argument using relavent and sufficient evidence.

Student was not able to "prove" his/her side of the argument logically.

Level of discourse is elementary.
Adequate

Student was able to argue and question but was unable to effecitvely "prove" why he/she believes that their positon is correct.

Students have evidence but it is weak.

Level of discourse is average.
Excellent

Student arguement is insightful and convincing.

Student was able to "prove" his/her argument with relavent and sufficient evidence.

Level of discourse is nuanced.
Behavior
10 pts

Use of manners during the group discussion. Yes, this is an argument/debate but you are to maintain decorum.

Poor

Student was rude.
Interrupted other students while talking.

Used unkind words towards another student.
Student was not respectful of other students opinions.
Adequate

Student was not rude but needs to work proper group manners.

May need to work on interrupting students or being able to express his/her opinion in a non-threatening way and/or listen to a difference of opinion.
Excellent

Student was very polite. Waited his/her turn to talk. Reasonable level of argument.

Never interrupted another student.

Did not use harsh criticism when disagreeing with another student.
