RESEARCH	Poor Students use only 1 reference source to prepare their diorama, resulting in a limited understanding of region.	Fair Students gather information from 1 or 2 appropriate sources. They may rely very heavily on only 1 of the sources.	Good Students gather information from 3 or 4 appropriate and varied sources For example, they use the Internet or magazines as well as general encyclopedias.
CONTENT	Poor The model shows a scene or demonstrates a culture but it contains errors or incongruous elements in the same scene.	Fair Students create a model that shows a region or culture. They mostly understand how their model relates to the real world.	Good Students use the model to accurately depict a particular region or culture. Students can explain how the model works and answer questions about their work.
QUALITY OF CONSTRUCTION	Poor Even though some parts of the model are sturdy, other parts have fallen apart. Elements of the model have been hurriedly taped together.	Fair Although the model may be sturdy, construction materials such as glue and tape are easy to see, detracting somewhat from the realism of the scene.	Good The model is sturdy, construction materials such as glue and tape are not evident, and the scene looks realistic.
PRESENTATION	Poor The model fails to present a scene adequately. Students paid little attention to color or shapes when they made the elements of a diorama.	Fair The model adequately presents a scene. Most of the elements of dioramas were easy to make out or understand.	Good The model is attractive and includes many interesting details. Students drew and used appropriate color on dioramas so they were easy to understand.
