Good On grade level, the student makes attempt with deliberate word choice, but may make some mistakes.	Excellent Above grade level, and use of 'juicy' words correctly. Careful use of descriptive words.
Conventions	Not Yet Little to no attempt for correct grammar, syntax, and spelling.	Basic Multiple errors that make comprehension a struggle.	Good Few errors, usually in more complex sentences. Errors do not hinder the reader's comprehension.	Excellent Virtually no errors in grammar, syntax, and spelling. Organization is clear and word choice shows high level of understanding.
Ideas	Not Yet Is not able to convey their meaning to appropriately answer the question.	Basic Is able to answer the question with limited details and connection to their understanding of the movie.	Good Shows ability to connect with the movie themes in at least one way; self, world, other text. Students show use of prior knowledge and make connections.
