The meaning of the term can easily be determined by the target audience.	Emerging The sentence example created is a vaguely accurate application of the literary term. It demonstrates that the student's understanding of the term is still unclear. The target audience may struggle to determine the meaning of the term using the example.	Beginning The example created is not an example of the literary term assigned. --OR-- The example created demonstrates that the student is very unclear about the meaning of the term.
Visualization	Proficient The image created clearly illustrates the sample sentence. The target audience can easily decipher the meaning of the term.	Emerging The image created relates to the meaning of the literary term but is difficult to understand. With assistance, the target audience might be able to decipher the meaning of the term.	Beginning The image created does not clearly relate to the sample sentence. --OR-- It is difficult to determine the term's meaning from the image.
Definition (student paraphrase)	Proficient The definition of the term has been correctly paraphrased in language that the target audience can easily understand.	Emerging The definition of the term has been paraphrased, but it may be difficult for the target audience to grasp the meaning of the term because the paraphrase is awkwardly constructed or unclear.	Beginning The definition of the term has not been accurately paraphrased. --OR-- Too much of the original language of the definition has been used in the paraphrase.
Spelling, Grammar & Mechanics	Proficient There are fewer than two errors in spelling, grammar or mechanics. (Grammar code: A)	Emerging There are two-three errors in spelling, grammar or mechanics.
