Vocabulary Discovery Students work in teams to come up with working definitions to terms studied in class. Students may use dictionaries, prior knowledge, and peer discussion. By the end of the activity students should have a list of useful definitions written in their notebooks and be able to describe the terms orally. Vocabulary Discovery
	Poor 1 pts	Fair 2 pts	Good 3 pts
On Task	Poor Student fought over materials or had to be redirected several times to discuss the vocabulary terms and not other subjects.	Fair Student worked cooperatively with partner however had to be redirected to stay on topic and not discuss other subjects not related to class.	Good Student worked cooperatively with partner and was able to discuss only vocabulary terms without getting distracted with nonrelated subjects.
Work Completed	Poor Student has 3 or fewer definitions written in notebook.	Fair Student has 4 to 5 definitions written in notebook.	Good Student has all 6 definitions written in notebook.
Clear Understanding	Poor Student could only read definitions from notebook when asked to describe a meaning of a term.	Fair Student could give a vague explanation of the terms' meanings.	Good Student could give an original explanation of the terms' meanings and provide examples.
Neatness	Poor Definitions may not be labled and writing is sloppy and illegible.	Fair	Good Definitions are labled and writing is clear and easy to read.
