Reading Journal Scoring rubric for the student's weekly reading responses.
	Above Average 4 pts	Average 3 pts	Below Average 2 pts	Poor 1 pts
Weekly Responses At least 3 responses are recorded. Students must read for 20 minutes per night (Mon.-Thurs.).	Above Average Responses are recorded on time and dated correctly.	Average Responses are recorded on time and dated correctly more than 50% of the time.	Below Average Responses are not recorded on time or dated correctly (less than 50% of the time).	Poor Responses are not recorded on time or dated correctly.
Completion Each journal entry has at least one paragraph consisting of 4 or more sentences.	Above Average Each journal entry is completed with a paragraph of 4 complete sentences or more.	Average Some journal entries have less than 4 complete sentences in a paragraph.	Below Average Some journal entries have 3 complete sentences or less.	Poor Some journal responses have not been completed at all.
Response Quality Responses are fully developed and on topic using support from the text.	Above Average Responses are fully developed and strongly on-topic using specific details or quotes from the text to support thinking.	Average Responses are acceptably developed and remain on-topic for the most part with some details from the text to support thinking.	Below Average Responses are underdeveloped and do not remain on-topic. Most responses do not have details from the text to support thinking.	Poor Response is critically underdeveloped and use no details from the text to support thinking.
