Sitting Posture	Exemplary Student sits forward in their chair, feet flat on the floor underneath their knees, head upright, back straight, shoulders relaxed while holding their instrument correctly.	Excellent Student will correct and maintain posture when prompted at the beginning of class.	Satisfactory Student requires infrequent reminders.	Developing Student requires frequent reminders.	Needs Improvement Student refuses to correct posture.
Right Hand Position	Exemplary Right hand is placed on the instrument in a relaxed manner, with fingers correctly positioned on keys, valves, slides or sticks. This hand "plays" the instrument.	Excellent Student will correct and maintain hand position when prompted at the beginning of class.	Satisfactory Right hand is placed on the instrument in a manner that lacks some control (too tense or too loose).	Developing Right hand is incorrectly placed on the instrument in a manner that lacks control.	Needs Improvement Student refuses to attempt to correct right hand position.
Left Hand Position	Exemplary Left hand is the holder in many instruments and requires a solid (not tense) position. If the left hand "plays" the instrument, score accordingly.	Excellent Left hand often holds the instrument securely (not tense) position.	Satisfactory Left and right hands share the responsibility of holding the instrument.	Developing Left and right hands share the responsibility of holding the instrument in such a manner as to noticeably and negatively affect their playing.	Needs Improvement Student refuses to attempt to correct left hand position.
Instrument Position	Exemplary Student holds their instrument at the correct angle while in playing position.	Excellent Student holds their instrument at the correct angle while in playing position when prompted at the beginning of class.	Satisfactory Student requires infrequent reminders to hold their instrument at the correct angle while in playing position.	Developing Student requires frequent reminders to hold their instrument at the correct angle while in playing position.	Needs Improvement Student refuses to attempt to hold their instrument at the correct angle while in playing position.
