Format	Poor The poem has three or fewer lines and the first line does not name a person or animal	Fair The poem has four lines, but the first line does not name a person or an animal.	Good The poem has 3 lines and the first line names a person or animal.	Excellent The poemhas four lines and the first line names a person or animal.
Spelling / Grammar	Poor Your poems have many spelling and grammar mistakes. You have made no effort to correct obvious mistakes.	Fair Your poems have several errors in grammar and spelling which make them difficult to understand.	Good Your poems have a few errors in spelling and/or grammar. Poems are easily understood.	Excellent Your spelling and grammar are virtually error free.
Rhyme Line 1 - a Line 2 - a Line 3 - b Line 4 - b	Poor Your poem does not have an (a a b b) rhyme pattern.	Fair All four lines rhyme you did not use the (a a b b) rhyme pattern.	Good Lines one and two rhyme but not lines three and four. Or Lines three and four rhyme but not one and two.	Excellent Your poem has an (a a b b) rhyme pattern.
Illustration	Poor The poem was not illustrated.	Fair The poem had illustrations, but it was not colored.	Good The poem had basic illustrations that were colored.	Excellent The poem was illustrated nicely, and illustrations were colored.
Capitalization/Punctuation	Poor Three or more lines do not begin with a capital letter and Lines 2 and 4 do not end with an end punctuation mark	Fair Two lines do not begin with a capital letter and Lines 2 and 4 do not end with an end punctuation mark	Good One line does not begin with a capital letter or Lines 2 and 4 do not end with an end punctuation mark.
