Capitalization & Punctuation All sentences start with Capital letters and appropriate punctuation is used.	Above Grade Level The writing is free of capitalization & punctuation errors.	On Grade Level The writing has 1 or 2 capitalization & punctuation errors.	Approaching Grade Level The writing has 3 or more capitalization & punctuation errors.	Below Grade Level The writing has 5 or more capitalization & punctuation errors
Grammar Correct grammar is used	Above Grade Level The writing contains descriptive language adds to text.	On Grade Level The writing contains 1 or two errors in describing words.	Approaching Grade Level The writing contains 3 or more errors in use describing words or few describing words are used.	Below Grade Level The writing contains 4+ errors in describing words.
Spelling After editing and conferencing no spelling errors should be present.	Above Grade Level The writing is free of spelling errors.	On Grade Level The writing has only 1 spelling error.
