Consistency in Preparation	Poor Often misplaces or looses materials; has difficulty getting started.	Fair Has materials, but is slow to get started.	Good Frequently has materials ready and gets to work.	Excellent Always retrieves materials quickly and gets to work.
Ability to Focus	Poor Wanders around; talks and interrupts others.	Fair Wanders around, reads a little; may talk and interrupt others on occasion.	Good Usually reads quietly the entire time; tries not to talk or interrupt others.	Excellent Always reads the entire time; does not talk or interrupt others.
Record Keeping	Poor Does not record his/her reading in their reading log.	Fair Often forgets to record in their reading log.	Good Records reading on most days in their reading log.	Excellent Records reading in reading log every day.
Genre Selection	Poor Student does not engage in reading different genres.	Fair Student reads at least two different genres during a week.	Good Student reads three different genres throughout the week.	Excellent Student read four or more different genres throughout the week.
Comprehension	Poor Student cannot explain the story in his/her own words.	Fair Student can recollect basic factual information about the story.	Good Student can retell the basic plot of the story in some detail.	Excellent Student can retell the story with great detail. Student can relate the story to his/her own life.
