Oral Presentation-- Poetry: Due 5/1/12 
Students will memorize and recite a song or poem of at least 20 lines and examine lyrics/lines using poetic terms studied in class. All content of songs or poems must be appropriate for a sixth-grade audience. Students will provide a typed copy of the song/poem to be projected on the board and have this self-graded rubric to hand in before the project or lose 10 points.

Student chooses a song or poem that does not contain rich figurative language and/or imagery and/or meaning to discuss. Student does not perfectly memorize song/poem or does not recite song/poem with appropriate volume, speed or intonation, or forgets to introduce the song/poem with the title and author.
Not Proficient

Student chooses an unsuitable song/poem, does not memorize song/poem, forgets to introduce song/poem with title and author, and produces a presentation which is lacking in presentation skills.
Intro; Rhyme and Meter

Excellent

Student explains poetic structure of their song/poem: rhyme scheme, kinds of rhyme, number and type of stanzas, melodic devices, foot and meter.

Student examines 85% of the examples of figurative language, imagery and symbolism in the song/poem and correctly uses terms learned in class.

Student examines less than 85% of examples of figurative language, imagery and symbolism in the song or poem and/or does not correctly use terms learned in class.
Meaning

Excellent

Student speculates on how imagery, figurative language, symbolism and melodic devices contribute to the meaning and theme of the song/poem, providing a well-supported interpretation.
Proficient

Student provides an interpretation which is 85% supported by the poetic devices in the lyrics.
Not Proficient

Group provides an interpretation only partially (less than 85%) supported by poetic devices in the lyrics.
