Tone Quality is consistently clear throughout the range of the voice

Tone Quality is clear through the normal singing range. An extreme note in the range sometimes causes the quality to be less controlled.

Tone Quality is often clear and focused, but sometimes the tone is uncontrolled in the normal singing range. Occasionally the tone quality detracts from the overall performance.

The tone is often not clear or focused regardless of the range, significantly detracting from the overall performance. (The tone lacks practice)

Can not hear to evaluate.

Performs with creative interpretation of the style of music in response to the core. Uses accurate dynamic levels.

Typically performs with an interpretation and style suggested by instructor.

Dynamic levels are inconsistent and performed with some interpretation, but not consistently.

Attention to dynamics is lacking from the performance. Singer rarely demonstrates expression, simply sings the notes.

Can not hear to evaluate.

Student articulates clearly and the text is easily understood. (All vowels and consonants are clearly formed.) If applicable, foreign language is pronounced correctly.

Student articulates the words somewhat clearly and most of the text is understood. (Most of the vowels and consonants are clearly formed, but a few final consonants are missing.) If applicable, foreign language is pronounced with a few errors.

Student sometimes articulates the words, but the words of the text often lack clear beginning and ending consonant sounds.If applicable, foreign language is difficult to understand and has many mispronunciations.

Student rarely articulates the words and the text is not intelligible. If applicable, the foreign language is mispronounced throughout and unclear.

Can not hear to evaluate.

Student was very knowledgeable about their lesson topic. They spoke with confidence.

Student was knowledgeable about their lesson topic. He/she was somewhat dependent upon notecards.

Student was not very knowledgeable about their lesson topic. The student read directly from other references.

The student was not able to complete the lesson. The information given was not organized. Student needed to study more.
