	Does not meet standard 1 pts	Almost meets standard 2 pts	Meets standard 3 pts	Exceeds standard 4 pts
Content	Does not meet standard No understanding of the text is evident in the project.	Almost meets standard Does not demonstrate a good understanding of the text. The project is unrelated to the text, or only vaguely related.	Meets standard Demonstrates a good understanding of the text and is able to extend this understanding to the chosen project. Some themes, messages, motifs, etc. are evident in the work.	Exceeds standard Demonstrates an excellent understanding of the text; its' themes, messages, motifs, etc. and is able to transfer that understanding to extrapolate appropriately via the chosen project.
Conventions	Does not meet standard There are too many errors to count and the reader is distracted.	Almost meets standard 10 or more errors are present and the reader is somewhat distracted.	Meets standard 5-8 errors are evident, but this does not distract the reader.	Exceeds standard No or very few errors in grammar and spelling. The reader is not distracted by errors.
Creativity	Does not meet standard No creativity or thought are evident. Little to no time has been put into the completion of the assignment.	Almost meets standard Little to no creativity and thought is evident. Student has not researched the project or spent sufficient time on the assignment.	Meets standard Some creativity and thought are evident in the final product. Student has done some research, but has either failed to fully incorporate the information, or else simply has not spent enough time on the assignment.	Exceeds standard Creativity and thought are evident in the final product. Student has researched and expended considerable thought and labor in creating the project.
Presentation	Does not meet standard Project is sloppy, disorganized, and indecipherable.	Almost meets standard Project is not neat or easy to understand. The presentation is not well-organized and significant explanation is required.	Meets standard Project is neat and relatively easy to understand. It is organized and requires very little explanation.	Exceeds standard Project is neat, easy to understand, and well-organized.
