	Exceeding 4 pts	Meeting 3 pts	Approaching 2 pts	Beginning 1 pts
Comprehension	Exceeding Project displays an extensive understanding of the characters, plot, setting, conflict, and/or theme in the novel.	Meeting Project displays a sufficient understanding of the characters, plot, setting, conflict, and/or theme in the novel.	Approaching Project displays an incomplete understanding of the characters, plot, setting, conflict, and/or theme in the novel.	Beginning Project displays little understanding of the characters, plot, setting, conflict, and/or theme in the novel.
Creativity	Exceeding Project has extremely creative and original ideas. This may take the form of how the work is displayed and presented.	Meeting Project has creative and original ideas. This will take the form of how the work is displayed or presented.	Approaching Project has some creative and original ideas.	Beginning No evidence of creativity or originality in the project.
Completeness	Exceeding Project goes above or beyond the requirements of the assignment.	Meeting Project meets requirements of the assignment.	Approaching Project meets most of the requirements of the assignment.	Beginning Project meets some most of the requirements of the assignment.
Communication	Exceeding Product is in an appropriate format and shows significant effort. All written information is correct, neat and easy to read.	Meeting Product is in appropriate format and shows effort. Most of the product is correct, neat and easy to read.	Approaching Product may or may not be in an appropriate format. Some of the product is neat or easy to read. Effort is lacking.	Beginning More than 50% of the product is not neat or easy to read or the product is not in an appropriate format. Very little effort.
