Out of a Crowd Poem Rubric 
Write a poem about a person who stands out for one reason or another. Start by noticing expression on faces or someone's special mannerisms. Grammar should be used correctly; if you use slang, the grammar should be appropriate for the topic.

Poem is creative and original. It is evident that the poet put thought into their words and uniquely conveyed their ideas and emotions of the chosen person or how they feel about that person.
Meeting Standards

Poem is thoughtful and creative. A couple of phrases or ideas could be better, but overall it is very well done. It is obvious who they are describing but not how that person feels or how they feel about the person.
Approaching Standards

Most of the poem is creative, but the poem seems rushed and lacking in detail about the chosen person or how they feel. It may be unclear who they are describing or what is happening.
Below Standards

Poems appear to be thoughtless or rushed. Work is very repetitive, and ideas are unoriginal. Unclear who is being described and/or what is happening in the poem.
Figurative Language

Exceeding Standards

At least four different kinds of figurative language are used. Poem is chock full of figurative language!!
Meeting Standards

At least three different kinds of figurative language are used. There is a lot of figurative language used.
Approaching Standards

At least two different kinds of figurative language is used. The poem would be better if more were used.
Below Standards

There is only one kind or no figurative language in the poem.

Exceeding Standards

Proper use of English spelling and grammar is used consistently throughout each poem. Punctuation is utilized when necessary. No errors.
Meeting Standards

1-2 spelling or grammar mistakes are evident, but do not diminish the meaning of the poem. Punctuation is utilized when necessary.
Approaching Standards

The poet's intended meaning is confused by 3-4 spelling or grammar errors. Punctuation may be misused.
Below Standards

There are 5+ spelling or grammar errors, making the poems difficult to understand. Punctuation is used incorrectly.
