Understanding Dynamics Students will be able to define dynamic marking, explain how to perform them and execute them in their performances. Rubric Code: FC5CX4 By kmonroe Draft Public Rubric Subject: Music Type: Assessment Grade Levels: 6-8

Name and Define Symbol	Below Standard Students can not identify symbols or explain meaning.	Approaching Standard Students can identify and define some symbols with some spelling errors.	Standard Student can identify and define most symbols with correct spelling.	Above Standard Students can identify all symbols, explain their application in a musical composition. English and Italian spellings are correct.
Application of Markings	Below Standard Students has basic understanding of dynamics but does not know the how the symbols are applied.	Approaching Standard Student can give a basic explanation of how dynamics effect music.	Standard Student explains how dynamics effect a piece of a music and gives examples using the dynamic symbols	Above Standard Students explains how a composer will use dynamics in a piece of music, Give examples to support each dynamic symbol used. Student goes further to include excerpts of parts of music they have performed.
Execution	Below Standard Students can not explain how to express loud nd soft parts in their music with their instrument.	Approaching Standard Students can explain how to make their instrument play various levels of sounds but cannot perform them.	Standard Students has a good understanding of how to execute dynamics. Forte , Piano and crescendo. Can explain and include in performance.	Above Standard Student has good command of their instrument applies all dynamic markings. Applies them to performance while playing and understands their importance.
