Articulation/ Volume
Poor
Articulation of speech was very poor. Words could not be understood. Volume was very low and could not be heard in the theater setting. Listening to the monologue was very hard to follow.

Articulation of speech and volume cut in and out of being recognizable. Some words were understood and heard while others weren't. Student gave very little consideration of this in their rehearsal.

Articulation of speech and volume for a majority of the monologue was understood and heard. It is apparent that the student has taken their time in focusing on articulation and volume.

Articulation and volume was strong for the theatrical setting. Entire monologue was clear and mixed well with the emotional content of the scene.

Believability of character and monologue content was poor. Words are merely being repeated without any goal/ tactics or any character background. As an audience I do not believe actor.

Believability of character and monologue was sub-standard. There are moments when the character is convincing but very little work has been done to the pre-work of this monologue.

Believability of character and monologue was strong. Pre-work has been completed and it is apparent that the monologue has been given careful consideration.
Excellent
The actor was completely dedicated to the emotional content and was involved in the scene. The actor was beyond prepared and was completely convincing.
Comprehension

It is apparent that the actors comprehension of monologue is poor. Student 's beats are unrecognizable and emotional delivery do not coincide the authors purpose of writing monologue.

Comprehends basic textual structure and shows basic knowledge of what they are saying.
Good
Student is aware of the characters goals/obstacles/tactics. It is evident that the actor is working towards a goal and shows dedication in reaching the goal. Beats and dynamics are appropiate
Excellent
Comprehension of monologue leaves a lasting impression. Student understands full content of monologue and back story. Actor shows a strong understanding of character.
Emotional Content

Student was disconnected with the emotional content of the scene. Words are merely being recited without any emotional value.
Fair
Student shows signs of emotions that connect to the character. The emotions may be merely stereotypical reactions. Stakes are minimum. Actors choices were weak and very little risk was taken

Student was connected to the emotional content of the scene. Actor made strong choices and the audience was moved by presentation.
Excellent
Actor made a lasting impression with the audience by their interpretation of the text. Actor made strong choices and took risk with the monologue. Actor fully committed.

Actor frequently broke character during presentation. Actors eye focus was often interrupted and not accurate with whom they are speaking.

Actor broke character at times in the monologue. Actor showed an uncertainty of where they are speaking and was inconsistent with their eye contact.

Actor stayed in character through out the monologue. Actor may be inconsistent in maintaining eye contact with whom they are speaking.

Actor stayed in character through out the monologue. Actor was consistent in maintaining eye contact with whom they are speaking.
