Characters	Needs Improvement Student cannot identify the characters by name and cannot give much detail about them.	Fair Student can identify some of the main characters by name, and can give little or no details about them.	Very Good Student can identify most main characters by name and can give some detail about them.	Excellent Student can identify all main characters by name and can give specific details about them.
Setting	Needs Improvement Student cannot identify the setting.	Fair Student can identify setting with little detail.	Very Good Student can identify main settings with some details. (time or place)	Excellent Student can identify main settings with significant detail. (time and place)
Problem/Conflict	Needs Improvement Student cannot identify the problem/conflict.	Fair Student can identify a minor problem/conflict.	Very Good Student can identify more than one minor problem/conflict.	Excellent Student can identify the major problem/conflict.
Prediction	Needs Improvement Student is unable to predict what the story may be about.	Fair Student's prediction does not match the picture.	Very Good Student's prediction is reasonable, but does not contain many details about what the story may be about.
