Ideas/Content	Below Expectations Lacks a central idea and development is minimal or non-existent.	Developing Some attempt at expansion, but the main theme may be too general or lack detail. Student struggled to explain the issue.	Satisfactory Evident main idea with some support and development but somewhat mundane.	Strong Clear and focussed main issue enhanced with details. Student shows understanding in explanation of the issue.	Exemplary Well developed issue enhanced with relevant and engaging detail and facts. Student goes above and beyond to expose the issue to the reader.
Organization/Form	Below Expectations Writing lacks a clear sense of direction. Ideas are strung together with little attention to detail.	Developing Some evidence of a plan, but more of a list of facts with little development.	Satisfactory Organization is appropriate but conventional. There was obvious attempt to develop an essay.	Strong Order and structure moves the reader through the essay. There was a satisfying opening and close to the essay	Exemplary Effectively organized to grab the readers attention and keep it throughout the short essay. Attention to detail is evident.
Writing Process	Below Expectations Writer demonstrates a lack of understanding that writing is a process. Many errors in conventions and sentence structure. More work is required!	Developing Writer completes the most important steps of the writing process but errors in coneventions and sentence structure show that more work is required!	Satisfactory Writer completes most of the steps of the writing process but some errors in conventions and sentence structure shows that more work should be done!	Strong Writer completes all of the steps in the writing process but errors in conventions and or sentence structure show that still more can be done!	Exemplary Writer completes all steps and will even look to go further by repeating steps in the process! Conventions and sentence structure is nearly flawless!
