Orchestra performance rubric
	Superior 4 pts	Excellent 3 pts	Average 2 pts	Retake / Non-Passing 1 pts
Posture	Superior Excellent posture throughout performance.	Excellent Instrument is held correctly for the most part, and proper technique is evident. There are very few adjustments that need to be made.	Average Although the instrument is not completely held correctly, student is able to play somewhat properly, but still has several adjustments to make.	Retake / Non-Passing Slouches or slumps while playing with wrist or arm holding instrument in place. No shoulder rest or rock stop, and instrument is held incorrectly.
Left Hand Position	Superior Excellent position throughout the entire performance.	Excellent Strong wrist and good finger placement most of the time, with few exceptions	Average Wrist is ocassionally weak, and some finger placement is good, but inconsistent, causing other technical problems such as poor intonation and tone quality.	Retake / Non-Passing Wrist is weak and fingers are flat. No obvious finger pattern established.
Right Hand Position (Bow Hold)	Superior Exceptional, flexible and strong bow hold showing complete control.	Excellent Good bow hold with only minor adjustments needed. Good bow control.	Average Poor bow hold - fingers near correct placement, but inverted or over extended. Very little bow control.	Retake / Non-Passing No appropriate bow hold evident.
Rhythmic Accuracy	Superior Confidently performs all rhythms correctly.	Excellent Most of the rhythms are performed correctly, with few errors.	Average Some basic rhythms are performed correctly; however, has challenges with some rhythms in specific measures.	Retake / Non-Passing Most of the rhythms in excerpt are performed incorrectly.
Pitch Accuracy	Superior Confidently plays all pitches correctly.	Excellent Plays most of the pitches correctly with few errors and is able to recognize most notes within the assignd key.	Average Many of the pitches are played incorrectly,but is able to recognize some notes within the assigned key.	Retake / Non-Passing Most pitches are played incorrectly and student is not able to recognize any notes within the assigned key.
Musicianship	Superior Student performs the piece with appropriate dynamics, phrasings, and articulation.	Excellent Most of the dynamics are followed, and most of the articulation signs are observed. Most phrases are performed correctly.	Average Some dynamics are observed. Some articulation is performed. Some phrases are complete and musically accurate.	Retake / Non-Passing No dynamics. No use of articulation. Most phrases are performed incorrectly, or there is no sense of phrasing at all.
Style/Interpretation	Superior The performance of the piece is beautifully executed with both appropriate style and interpretation.	Excellent Most of the piece is performed using correct style and interpretation.	Average Some parts of the piece are performed using both correct style and interpretation.	Retake / Non-Passing The style and interpretation of the piece is not executed during performance, or executed in the wrong style.
