Excellent posture throughout performance.

Instrument is held correctly for the most part, and proper technique is evident. There are very few adjustments that need to be made.

Although the instrument is not completely held correctly, student is able to play somewhat properly, but still has several adjustments to make.

Slouches or slumps while playing with wrist or arm holding instrument in place. No shoulder rest or rock stop, and instrument is held incorrectly.
Left Hand Position

Excellent position throughout the entire performance.

Strong wrist and good finger placement most of the time, with few exceptions

Wrist is ocassionally weak, and some finger placement is good, but inconsistent, causing other technical problems such as poor intonation and tone quality.

Right Hand Position (Bow Hold)

Exceptional, flexible and strong bow hold showing complete control.

Good bow hold with only minor adjustments needed. Good bow control.

Poor bow hold - fingers near correct placement, but inverted or over extended. Very little bow control.

No appropriate bow hold evident.

Student performs the piece with appropriate dynamics, phrasings, and articulation.

Most of the dynamics are followed, and most of the articulation signs are observed. Most phrases are performed correctly.

Some dynamics are observed. Some articulation is performed. Some phrases are complete and musically accurate.
Retake / Non-Passing

No dynamics. No use of articulation. Most phrases are performed incorrectly, or there is no sense of phrasing at all.
Style/Interpretation

Superior

The performance of the piece is beautifully executed with both appropriate style and interpretation.
Excellent

Most of the piece is performed using correct style and interpretation.
Average

Some parts of the piece are performed using both correct style and interpretation.
Retake / Non-Passing

The style and interpretation of the piece is not executed during performance, or executed in the wrong style.
