Quantity of work for each entry Student wrote journal questions on top of each entry. Responses provide a complete answer.	Needs Improvement Entry is too short and/or work is rushed. Student didn't explain ideas and thoughts about the book.	Good Entry is appropriate in length for the idea, connection, or question being explained.	Excellent Entry length shows the student put extra effort and time in to responding to the book.
Critical Thinking Is critical thinking about the text evident?	Needs Improvement Responses do not demonstrate critical thought about the text. Student response is a summary/retell with no ideas about the book.	Good Responses demonstrate critical thought about the text. Student responses have at least one idea present.
