IDEAS	Poor The claim and/or evidence are confusing and unclear.	Good The claim and/or the evidence are somewhat clear. The evidence is lacking a little in its adequacy, appropriateness, or accuracy.	Excellent The claim and evidence are clear. The evidence is adequate, appropriate, and accurate.
ORGANIZATION	Poor The claim is not in the introductory paragraph. Evidence is unclear or unrelated to the claim. It is difficult to identify different paragraphs.	Good The claim is in the introductory paragraph. There are paragraphs but they are not well organized. Some ideas are not followed by evidence is unrelated to the claim.	Excellent The claim is in the introductory paragraph. Facts, examples, and details are organized in paragraphs creating good flow. Conclusion paragraph ends on good note.
VOICE/WORD CHOICE	Poor Many sentences are copied from a source instead of being the author's own words. Word choice is repetitive and overused.	Good The author mostly used his or her own words. There are good word choices with few repetitions. It would help to use more descriptive vocabulary.
