Format	Poor Three parts are not included or not in the correct place.	Fair Two parts are not included or not in the correct place.	Good One part is not included ornot in the correct place.	Excellent All parts of the letter are included and in the correct place.
Handwriting neatness	Poor Writing is not able to be read.	Fair Writing canbe read but is not neatly done and there are problems size and space of letters.	Good Writing is nicely done, but some problems with size and space.	Excellent Writing is nicely spaced and size appropriate. Handwriting is beautifully done.
Mechanics and Grammar	Poor Summary has 6 or more errors in punctuation, spelling and capitalization	Fair Summary has 3 to 5 errors in punctuation, spelling and capitalization.	Good Summary has 1 to 2 errors in punctuation, spelling and capitalization.	Excellent Summary has no errors in punctuation, spelling and capitalization.
Supporting Detail Sentences	Poor Summary does not have any supporting details.	Fair Summary only has 1 supporting detail.	Good Summary has only 2 supporting details.	Excellent Summary has 3 or more supporting details.
Staying on Topic	Poor Uses sentences correctly by staying on topic some of the time.	Fair Uses sentences correctly by staying on topic most of the time.	Good Uses sentences correctly by staying on topic all of the time.	Excellent Topic is clearly stated and an evaluation of the text is included in last paragraph.
