Just Beginning
My paragraph does not flow well from one idea to the next. It lacks clarity and is hard to understand what the main idea is.
On the Way
Though my paragraph is constructed well, the sentences are still a bit scattered and unclear. The main idea needs to be a little more clearer.
Halfway Home
I develop a main idea but the rest of my details do not align well with my main idea.

My main idea is right on target. My ideas are apparent to the reader, but still may not be 100% clear towards the end of the paragraph.

My paragraph grabs the readers' attention. I construct ideas together which work well with one another and make sense. I use many details to support my main idea.

My paragraph is organized well, but still has random sentences throughout the beginning, middle, and end that are not necessarily important.

I organize my paragraph with a well-understood beginning, middle, and end, but can develop more details throughout the paragraph.

My details are noticeable in my paragraph and my paragraph contains many transitional words that allow flow to the organization. However, the paragraph contains a few sentences that could easily be arranged.

I organize a paragraph so it focuses on the main idea of my paragraph but also includes the crucial details that add to the main idea. It also holds the reader's interest.

I did not use a strong sense of vocabulary in the paragraph. The sentences I have chosen are quite bland.

My paragraph has a select few of vocabulary words, but most of my words are bland and boring. Time to implement captivating words for my audience!

I use words that are effective and contain good word choice, but still do not convey the intended message to the reader.

The reader captures my message through my word choice, but the paragraph still lacks a certain level of energy and trust from me.

The reader identifies with my energy and can trust my word choice. The reader understands that the words I have chosen in the paragraph communicate a trustworthy and knowledgeable voice.

The sentences I have selected are choppy and in-cohesive.

An apparent effort has been made to put my sentences together well, but they are very short and dull sentences that lack rhythm.

My sentences vary in length, but the reader still does not experience a sense of range between sentences.

My paragraph is right on target in using the correct range between sentences, but it still lacks a certain rhythm that captures my audience.

My paragraph has great rhythm. I use my different types of sentences accordingly and effectively.

My errors in spelling, punctuation, capitalization, grammar & usage; make my paragraph difficult to read.
On the Way
Though my paragraph is constructed well, it contains multiple grammatical errors, but punctuation and spelling are few.
Halfway Home
I construct my paragraph using some errors, but still communicate a central idea. However, the errors I do have are quite distracting to my reader.
Almost There
My paragraph communicates a central idea with also a handful to few conventional errors that can easily be fixed. Time to do some simple housekeeping!
Ready to Share
I can construct a paragraph which reflects a good grasp of standard writing conventions.
