Student demonstrates clean plies in each of the five positions while maintaining proper alignment of the body.
Proficient

Student knows the differences between the five positions and can plie in each. Some errors in alignment may still occur.

Student does a fair job in physically finding the five positions and executing a plie in each. Knees don't quite track over the toes.
Novice

Student has a poor understanding of the five positions. Knees do not track over the toes, and the upper body does not stay square.
TENDU/DEGAGE

Master

Student demonstrates excellent use of technique by pointing the feet with proper extension of the foot. Knees stay straight consistently. Foot passes through demi pointe as it brushes off the floor
Proficient

Student shows a good understanding of proper use of technique by pointing the feet with a good extension of the foot. Knees stay straight most of the time. Leg may not sustain turnout through entirety of degage.
Developing

Student has a fair sense of technique by sometimes pointing the feet with limited extension of the foot. Knees bend slightly and rarely.
Novice

Student has poor sense of technical skills with little or no pointing of the feet and no use of the extended foot. Knees bend consistently.

Student demonstrates excellent use of technique by clearly making the sur le cou de pied position, extending the leg to a straight tendu, and maintaining a strong alignment of the body.

Student shows a good understanding of proper technique by placing the leg near the ankle in an attempt to make sur le cou de pied. Slight errors in placement.

Student has a fair sense of technique by slightly turning out the knee as the foot comes to coupe, but the knees fail to straighten.

Student fails to bring the leg to a bent position and straighten it to tendu.

Student demonstrates excellent alignment when executing the movement. Hips stay square and still as the leg moves freely but cleanly below.

Student demonstrates proper alignment when executing the movement and mostly keeps the legs straight.

Student has fair awareness of alignment but leg may bend as it passes through first position.

Student's hips move excessively and the leg bends during the movement.

Student demonstrates proper alignment when executing developpe by keeping the body square and the supporting leg straight, but small errors may occur in the movement of the working leg and order of the exercise.
Developing

Student has fair awareness of alignment when executing the movement. Leg does not pass through a clean coupe, passe and/or attitude.
Novice

Student does not understand proper alignment and muscle use of the leg.
GRAND BATTEMENT'S ( Large kick )

Master

Student demonstrates excellent use of technique by keeping both legs strongly pulled up and the working foot pointed. The upper body stays straight and hip remain square.
Proficient

Student shows a good understanding of technique by keeping the working leg straight, turned out, and pointed. Only minor errors in alignment occured.
Developing

Student has a fair awareness of muscular engagement of the leg but has trouble keeping the upper body aligned and the supporting leg straight.
Novice

Student does not keep the leg straight and turned out as it is kicked. Student may have poor alignment of the upper body.
