Paragraph format	Poor The writer did not indent, and the paragraph is hard to read. They did not have a topic or closing sentence.	Fair The writer did not indent, and the paragraph is a little hard to read. The topic sentence is off topic, and there is no closing sentence.	Good The writer did not indent, but the paragraph has an nice flow. They have a topic sentence that could be a little more clear. The closing sentence wraps up the ideas.	Excellent The writer has indented and has written a nice paragraph. They have a topic and closing sentence. The topic sentence clearly states the main idea. The closing sentence. restates the topic sentence and/or wraps up the ideas in the paragraph.
Description of Process	Poor The steps are not clear or in order.	Fair The steps of the How To Paragraph are there. However, the steps are not clear to the reader.	Good The writer wrote the steps of how to do something. Some steps could have been a little more clear.	Excellent The writer did an excellent job telling the reader how to do something. The steps are clear and specific.

The steps are somewhat confusing.	Good The writer used some transition words, and this did not influence the flow of the paragraph.	Excellent The writer used transition words throughout the paragraph to show how to do something.
